Devices protecting all or substantially all of the tread portion of the tire against wear or puncture, either integral with the tire or applied thereto, and so constructed and arranged as to tend to prevent slipping or skidding of the tire on the roadway, and performing the anti-skid function either alone or in combination with other elements. Anti-skid armor is necessarily wholly or partially external.
