Passive star:

(under subclass 118) Subject matter wherein an optical data distribution system, containing a common node connected to one end of each of three or more branches and the other end of the branches are connected to each member of a local area network multiplex system, permits optical information flow between all of the members; and each member has its own power supply (i.e., passive) and does not change the power of the optical signals it receives from each member.
