DEFINITION

Demodulating:

(under subclass 174) Subject matter wherein the optical repeater extracts the information content of the signal it receives prior to reradiating the signal at the same or different carrier frequency.

(1) Note. Although there are various reasons for demodulating prior to transmission, the following are examples:

(a)

To enable retransmission with a different modulation than received, or

(b)

The demodulation is necessary to determine the reradiated destination for the received signal.
