DEFINITION

Classification: 411/138

Pawl element, movably carried by looplike element, coacts with ratchet on surface:

(under subclass 136) Device wherein the looplike element, or one of a plurality thereof, mounts, supports or otherwise holds another element which includes a portion for engaging the inwardly facing surface of the bolt head or nut, which portion is capable of some degree of movement relative to the surface, and wherein the surface has at least one, and usually a plurality of, steps or related formations, which formations constitute a ratchet, whereby the movable portion of the other element serves as a pawl for engaging the ratchet and restricting the rotation, in at least one direction, of the bolt or nut.
