DEFINITION

(under subclass 500) Processes wherein there is utilized a compound having alcoholic hydroxy bonded directly to an acyclic carbon or an organic solvent, or the reaction products thereof.

(1) Note. The compound having alcoholic hydroxy bonded

directly to an acyclic carbon may be used as a solvent or as a reactant.

(2) Note. An alcoholic hydroxy group is one that is bonded to a carbon that is not doubly bonded to chalcogen or to nitrogen, i.e., compounds such as acetic acid, etc., are not considered to have an alcoholic hydroxy group.
