Cross dyeing:

(under subclass 478) Subject matter wherein a component part of a substrate is differently treated to modify the dye affinity or color produced such as by mordant, resist, or dye intermediate, and then dyed or developed with one or more dyes or dye components to produce pattern effects.

(1) Note. Such effects due to a natural difference in the dyeing affinity of fibers in a blend are excluded from this subclass.
