DEFINITION

Classification: 83/307.1

(under subclass 284) Device wherein the flying cutter is an elongated member having a diameter which is relatively insignificant as compared to its length, which member enters the work in a direction perpendicular to the axis of the member and produces a severance of the work without any appreciable flow of material.

(1) Note. Because of the "planeless" nature of wire cutters, devices embodying such cutters have structural and operational features peculiar only to such devices. Such features (e.g., wire guides, tool infeed means) will be found in this subclass.

200.1, for a cutting device which operates by increasing the tension on a work-enclosing wire.

651.1+, for a wire, cutting tool, per se.
